Service Description

Yin/Yang Yoga is a class that balances the two elements of traditional Hatha Yoga. Ha means “Sun”, Tha means “Moon”, balancing the opposite elements to find harmony. Yang Yoga practices for the first half of the class with more active flow to strengthen the muscle, then followed by the Yin Yoga practice for the long-held pose to stress the Yin Tissue for the second half of the class. Yang, the masculine principle: light, active, outward and upward moving, hot, extrospective. It is more rhythmical and repetitive. This Yoga practice is great for building strength, fitness and stamina. Relative to this, Yin - the feminine principle: dark, passive, receptive, reflective, withdrawn, cool, introspective. Yin Yoga was developed to penetrate deep into connective tissue expanding flexibility and aiding healing while stimulating the nadis or meridians to loosen energetic blockages. In Yin Yoga we hold poses for longer periods, releasing and relaxing into them with mindful awareness of the sensations throughout the body and thoughts which arise, accepting and letting go of everything that comes. Yin and Yang are relative to each other and one cannot exist without the other like night (Yin) cannot exist without day (Yang). The two make up the whole. Each class starts with energising and uplifting practice and evolves into deep, introspective, and quiet yoga. By bringing both Yin and Yang aspects in each class, a practitioner balances the two energies and can experience all the benefits of both styles. The class is suitable for all levels. Note: All teachers interpret Yoga styles in their own way. Please refer to the individual teacher’s page to see their description.
